So, Ready! Set! Gooooooo!

Who is Evgen Čopi Gorišek.?

Evgen Čopi Gorišek is a contemporary artist, born in Slovenia but currently living and working in Berlin. Calm and positive person, always dreaming big, he can’t live without music.

Did you always want to be an artist?

I became interested in art when I was around 15 years old, before that I was really into sports.

Where does your inspiration come from?

Most of my inspiration comes from everyday life. The life that surrounds me, this could be a random moment that I get into when I’m walking around the city. I really like strange, absurd and unexpected moments. I get a lot of inspiration also from magazines, comics, advertisements and music.

Which artists have the greatest influence on your work?

There are plenty of artists that I really like, but let’s say my favorites are Austin Lee, Madsaki, Katherine Bernhardt and Nina Chanel Abney.

What is your process to create your work?

When I get an idea of what I want to paint, I make a sketch on the paper or recently I started to use a tablet for sketching. Sometimes I make a collage of different photos that I find on the internet. Once all of that is ready, I sketch it on the canvas and then I start to paint.

Is there something you can’t live without in your studio?

Window.

What is the meaning behind your artwork?

We must always think positive, even if we are in a bad situation, look forward and try to enjoy every little moment of our life. This is why all the faces on my paintings are smiling, even if the person is bored or sad. Muscular male bodies, beautiful female model bodies mixed with tigers and random objects are for me a mixture of symbolic interpretation of the world that we are living in and my personal view of life combined with imagination and emotions.

Imagine that your paintings could talk, what would they say about you?

What have you been thinking that day when you painted me?

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Try to be active in all areas as much as you can.

Do you find the social channel’s influence Positive or Negative?

In my opinion more positive but there is also a negative side.

Describe in 3 words how social channels affect you as an artist.

I’ve discovered so many amazing artists that I probably would never discover, the same goes for the galleries and great shows that I saw because of that. And the best part of all, I got connected with a lot of great artists, some I can even call friends.

What is your dream project?

I can only say that there are some projects that I was just dreaming about for years and now are about to happen in the next few months.
